The Bionic Woman Lindsay Wagner Talks Meditation, Holistic Healing and Shifting Perspective

At age 19, actress Lindsay Wagner, best-known for her Emmy-award winning role as the Bionic Woman, a TV Show in the 1970s, came down with a severe case of ulcers, and thought her only way out was surgery. Then she was introduced to a doctor and minister who approached her condition in a holistic manner, and after six weeks of fasting, visualization and meditation, as well as prayer, the ulcers went away, according to a report by thestar.com.

“It was just such a profound experience for me that I wanted to learn more and it began a life of study for me,” the 63-year-old actress said in the interview. “My whole life I’ve been studying this. It’s been my real passion.”

She also explained a person’s perspective of a situation often causes more pain than the actual situation itself, and by shifting our perspective, we can make a big difference.

“Our experience of many life circumstances is a function of our personal perspective and not the circumstance itself,” Wagner said.

She teaches workshops around the world called “Quiet the Mind & Open the Heart,” which include the use of meditation.

“Quiet the Mind & Open the Heart is an opening to the peace and joy that is naturally within us,” she says on her Web site www.lindsaywagner.com. “The programs are designed to clear the way for people to become more aware of and release limiting thoughts, attitudes, beliefs and negative emotions that make up our perspectives.”

Wagner will be hosting a live conference call with guided meditations on Sunday, July 29, 2012.

White Tea Boosts Metabolism & Decreases Inflammation

Although there has been a lot of research done on the amazing benefits of green tea, the health benefits of white tea actually outperform its green counterpart in some circumstances.

Harvested primarily in China, white tea comes from the buds and leaves of the Chinese Camellia sinensis plant. These buds are allowed to wither in natural sunlight before being lightly processed. In fact, white tea is the least processed and oxidized tea available, and also has a very low caffeine content.

Research shows white tea reduces the risk of inflammation more than other teas, and contains more polyphenols – a powerful antioxidant that fights and kills cancer-causing cells – than any other tea.

Additionally, a 2004 study at Pace University found white tea can help your body’s immune system fight off viruses and dangerous infection-causing bacteria, and because the tea has fluoride, it can help prevent dental plaque.

The flavor is much lighter than green tea, and many brands, such as the Republic of Tea, offer it with other flavors infused.

Here are some other benefits:

-Studies show white tea can thin the blood and improve artery function, and can also help lower high blood pressure and maintain a healthy one.

-It increases good cholesterol while decreasing bad.

-It contains high amounts of catechin, an antioxidant that inhibits the growth of cancer cells

-As a natural antibacterial and antiviral, it can help tone the immune system, and ease inflammation and allergic response.

Sonia Choquette Releases New Book: “Grace, Guidance and Gifts”

When struggling with certain circumstances in life, if we go within, we often realize we have disconnected from our Source, God or Spirit. In her newest book, “Grace, Guidance and Gifts: Sacred Blessings to Light Your Way,” Sonia Choquette offers a daily guide to reconnect.

The book and meditation CD, which features channeled 20-minute meditations, are meant to help “unite your soul with your Spirit,” and open us up to receive the blessings of spirit in (God’s) grace, (inner) guidance and (personal) gifts, Choquette explains in the book. They are also meant to help the reader establish a daily routine of connecting to Source and calling in the blessings available to them.

Specifically, the third blessing of “gifts” shows up in a few different ways, Choquette says. These are the strengths and talents we are born with; assistance and support of others; surprises, synchronicities and unexpected positive turns in events; and the gifts we share and give to others.

She offers daily readings that include a “Message From Spirit,” “Morning Prayer,” “Today’s Mantra,” and “Your Personal Blessing,” and recommends readers open the book randomly to see where Spirit directs them each day.

VIDEO: Meditation Tips From Deepak Chopra

The Chopra Center is launching another free 21-day meditation challenge starting this week, and best-selling author Deepak Chopra is offering tips on how to get the most out of a meditation practice.

The meditation challenge includes guided meditations that participants can listen to online, and he suggests finding a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Also, doing the practice in the morning and evening is best because it coincides with “our body’s quieter rhythms.” In fact, studies show morning meditations last longer than other times of the day.

Additionally, don’t feel you have to start with 30 minutes twice a day. Start with 15 and then gradually build up to a longer period of time.

Watch Deepak demonstrate these tips and more in the video below:

Meditation Can Decrease Stress and Increase Productivity at Work

Computer scientist and professor with the Information School at the University of Washington, David Levy, decided to do research on the benefits of meditation in the workplace after reading the book “The One Who Is Not Busy: Connecting to Work in a Deeply Satisfying Way,” by Darlene Cohen. What he discovered was those who trained in meditation were about to stay on task longer, felt less distracted and stress levels decreased.

He had three groups of human resources: the first had eight weeks of mindfulness-based meditation training; the second had eight weeks of body-relaxation training; and the third had meditation training after the eight weeks was over, according to a report at www.houmatoday.com.

Each person was tested on stress and multi-tasking abilities before and after the eight week trial, and researchers found the meditation group not only had lower stress levels during multitasking tests, but also were able to concentrate longer without being distracted.

Stress levels did not decrease for the other two groups, however, once the third group received the meditation training, stress did decrease.

“Meditation is a lot like doing reps at a gym. It strengthens your attention muscle,” Levy said in the report.
