5 Conscious Ways to Cope with Tragedy

By Keri Nola, MA, LMHC

We are in the midst of intense global shifts in consciousness. One aspect of this process is our experience of tragic events, such as natural disasters and extreme violence that are serving as catalysts for us to wake up to our opportunity to live more mindfully.  While these realities are often difficult for us to face, when we choose to react carelessly, we actually contribute to the energy we want to shift.

Whether facing personal or collective tragedy, it’s important that we are prepared with high vibration tools to stay connected with Divine truth in a time when support is most needed.

Here are five conscious ways to cope with tragedy:

1. Pause. Conscious people know the value of a sacred pause. Pausing and breathing before acting or reacting is the simple, most effective way to become grounded and centered in preparation for a high vibration response that supports peace and love rather than contributes to chaos and fear in the aftermath of tragedy. Give yourself permission to pause and breathe often.

2. Observe reactions with compassion. Observe your reactions with compassion before choosing any actions. Notice your anger, fear or sadness. This helps to meet, acknowledge and process emotion productively. Action is often a distraction from feeling. You have a right to get in touch with your genuine feelings about tragedy and spend time with those feelings gently and compassionately. This also includes observing any desire to participate in low vibration activities such as watching news media obsessively or using social media to express judgment and blame.

3. Allow. Welcome the flow of the feelings you discover in your observation. Too often we stifle, stuff and reserve our emotions, which can lead to a variety of bothersome physical, emotional, mental and spiritual symptoms. You have a right to experience and allow your full range of emotions. Tragedy striking is a perfect catalyst to awaken parts of you that have been asleep … notice their presence and allow the feelings rather than ignore, shame or deny them. Note this step does not require any external action.  Allowing our feelings may look like crying if you’re sad, writing about your anger, judgment, blame, fear, etc.

4. Choose. Consciously choose how to perceive tragedy. If we choose to see tragedy as something that is happening TO us, we feel victimized and powerless. If we choose to see tragedy as something that is happening FOR us, we feel curious and empowered. In order to evolve to our highest potential, we often need to experience events and circumstances that wake us up. Life is an ebb and flow of joy and pain, and navigating tragedy mindfully with a conscious perspective allows us to step into our divine potential more smoothly.

5. Serve. We are each here to be of service — to let our lights shine as we share our gifts, talents and hearts with the world. In times of tragedy when we may feel powerless to fix or change something, we can use it as a reminder to come back to how we can serve. Is there something you have to offer that could be of use? Time, money, food, skill; even if you’re not able to be of service directly with the tragedy, being of service in some way contributes to the vibration of community and connection, which ripples outward and the whole planet benefits.

Creating Romantic Abundance in Your Life

By Amy Leigh Mercree

If you are reading this article, you have access to the Internet and most likely a safe place quiet enough for you to indulge in some reading for entertainment and personal enhancement. You have time to devote to leisure and recreational activities, including reading, which means you are rich compared to much of the world’s population.

We are incredibly abundant in our lives, yet, for many there is an emptiness to be filled. We seek to fill it with romantic love, things and interaction. Some of us search for spiritual connection to fill the emptiness, but many are living with a sense of lack within.

How can we be so abundant, but live in varying states of internal lack?

It has become the norm in society to cultivate cravings and then endeavor to fill them. We need those new skinny jeans for a night out – then we’ll feel beautiful and like we fit in. We have to have those special face cleansing cloths to pamper our skin after a workout – then we will give our face the best and prove to ourselves we are worthy of the very best.

What if we could step outside of the hamster wheel of external validation? What if we could find our worth within? What if we could be filled with the divine power of our own uniqueness? How would our lives change?

Well, we would live from our creative souls and from a sense of sharing and community, and could think in terms of interconnection among all life. And we can start this mindset blooming within our beings now.

Start with a nightly list in your journal of 30 things you are grateful for in your life. Look at how abundant you are! Record each night what you are grateful for, and feel the blessings of your life with your heart. The more attention you place on the positive, the more positive you create in your life. It’s simple, natural law. Your attention creates your reality.

You are also romantically abundant whether you are coupled or single. Take a gratitude inventory of all the love and caring in your life. Do you feel love between you and your sister’s dog? Between you and a close friend? Between you and a coworker? Did you help your mother clean her car? Did you share a smile with a neighbor? Did you snuggle with your boss’s cat when you stopped by to feed her? Did your best friend send you a sweet card? There is love everywhere. There is caring flowing between people, animals and plants all around you. Interconnection is a Web designed to help you experience loving abundance. Let yourself tap into it!

When you choose to experience interconnection and loving abundance, you give your romantic life a boost. When you notice and identify those moments of abundance and express your appreciation and thanks for them, you exponentialize them. You harness the electrical charge and energy they contain, and it infuses your life – including your love life. You can create romantic abundance today by counting your blessings and choosing to experience love and caring each day. Share your love, experience true abundance, and romance will follow.

12 Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

With all the uses and benefits of apple cider vinegar, no house should go without a bottle. But first take note – not all apple cider vinegar is created equal!

We like Bragg Organic, Raw, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar, but any brand that is raw, unpasteurized and unfiltered is good. Also, don’t be alarmed by the sediment collected at the bottom of the bottle, known as ‘the mother,’ because this is actually the most beneficial part. It contains nutrients, enzymes and beneficial bacteria that results from a dual fermentation process not spoiled by being pasteurized.

Also important to note is when taken orally, it must be diluted. For example, mix 1 teaspoon with a cup of water or herbal tea, or add it to a salad dressing.

Here is a list of some of the most common uses of apple cider vinegar (and some that may surprise you):

Allergy Relief – Issues with pollen, dander, dust, animals or food allergies? Apple cider vinegar can help stop the histamine response in the body. Add 2 tablespoons to 8 ounces of water and drink once per day. Some people will add a packet of stevia to dilute the strong taste a bit! Others mix with juice instead of water, or add some honey to the mix.

Bug Bites – Use a cotton ball with full strength to speed healing and reduce the itch of bug bites by pressing the cotton ball onto the bite for 30 seconds – repeating every hour as necessary to control itching.

Diabetes – Studies show those who drink apple cider vinegar diluted in water (1 tablespoon in 32 ounces of water) each day show a decrease in insulin and glucose levels in those with diabetes.

Digestive Issues – Diluted in water 15 minutes before a meal can help prevent gas, bloating and heartburn, and sip 1 tablespoon diluted in a few ounces of water to alleviate symptoms once they start.

Flea Control for Pets – One part vinegar and one part water can be sprayed directly on your pets fur and rubbed into the skin. Repeat once a day for a few days to rid your pet of fleas.

Hair Care Rinse – Mixing ½ tablespoon with one cup of water (be sure to rinse well) can help remove oil and dirt, balance the hair’s pH to seal the cuticle, help wth dandruff, remove greasy build-up and soothe an itchy or irritated scalp. Poor it over hair after shampooing a couple times per week.

Non-Toxic Cleaning – Not only does it absorb odor, but it also has antibacterial properties. Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water in a spray bottle and use on hardwood floors, bathroom tiles, cabinets, countertops, windows, glass and mirrors. It can also be used for toilets! Simply pour it into the toilet and let it sit overnight.

Skin Toner – Just as it regulates the pH of the body, it can do the same for the skin. Dilute it with two parts water and apply to the face with a cotton ball as a toner.

Sunburn Treatment – To soothe the skin from sunburn, dilute it in water and apply directly to sunburn or add a cupful to a bath and soak in it.

Teeth Stains – Rub it directly onto teeth to remove stains and then rinse.

Wart Removal – Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and tape it to the wart with a band-aid overnight for five to seven nights until the wart falls off. Then do it a few more night to ensure it doesn’t grow back.

Weight Loss Aid – Because it breaks down fat, may dieters will add 2 teaspoons to 16 ounces of water and sip throughout the day.

James Cameron Urges National Geographic Gala Attendees to Consider Vegan Diet

The National Geographic Society honored filmmaker James Cameron at its 125th anniversary gala as “Explorer of the Year” for his successful solo dive to the deepest point of the Pacific Ocean last year, and Cameron took a moment during his speech to urge the room of scientists and explorers to consider becoming vegan or vegetarian, according to a Mother Nature Network report.

“I’ve had an epiphany recently,” Cameron said. “I want to challenge all of you as people of deep conscience, people who are environment stewards of the earth and oceans … By changing what you eat, you will change the entire contract between the human species and the natural world.”

Cameron announced he had switched to a vegan lifestyle in October last year, and explained how it had a big impact on him during his speech. “I felt like I was waking up from a long sleepwalk. I believe we are all sleepwalking off a cliff if we don’t do this,” he said.

Last summer, Cameron revealed his wife, Suzy Amis, was gradually shifting the family toward a more plant-based diet, and had transformed their New Zealand farm from dairy to crop based, the report stated.
