Coming to an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii near you … Deepak Chopra is launching a new video game based on meditation called Leela (which means ‘play’ in Sanskrit) in the United States on November 8, 2011, according to an Associated Press report.
“I personally believe that you can accelerate neural development and biological evolution through video games,” Chopra said in the report. “Unfortunately, that’s not what we’re doing right now. What we’re doing is creating addictions to violence, adrenaline and mindlessness, rather than mindfulness. That was my personal motivation to get involved in this medium.”
Leela, developed with THQ Inc., can be used with Xbox 360’s Kinect system to guide users through meditation exercises without the use of remote, or with Nintendo Wii’s gaming system. The game consists of seven different interactive exercises based on the chakra system. Gamers will use their body to control the graphics on the screen – all while calming music is playing in the background. And like any good game, it increases in difficulty as the player goes along, the AP reported.
Additionally, one of the guided meditative modes will use Xbox Kinect’s depth sensor to measure seated players’ breathing patterns, and as the player’s chest moves, they are instructed on how to control their breathing – thanks to the voice of yoga instructor Elena Brower.
Chopra believes that if gaming consoles add the abilities to wirelessly measure brain waves and intervals between heartbeats, they they could be even more beneficial to health and wellness, he told the AP.
“It’s all doable now,” said Chopra in the report. “We just have to bring it all together. If we can measure what’s happening in your body, your heart, your emotions, your breath and your mind, then there’s no reason why we can’t create a new generation of video games that can help accelerate the personal, psychological, emotional and spiritual development of human beings.”

Absolutely cannot wait!! I love this idea and hope that millions of Americans play this game I beleive the benefits are immeasurable.
Now, I always joke with the Game Stop clerks by asking them if they have a game where the object is to achieve enlightenment! Clearly, I’m going to have to take over my son’s Wii when this game comes out! Maybe I can even get him to do some chakra work.
